CVS Caremark - Prior-authorization - out of pocket expense
On Tuesday 6/9/15 I arrived at CVS pharmacy and upon check-out I was told that my prescription was once again not covered by my insurance and I had to pay full price of $70.00. I asked the pharmacy what had happened and she explained that this drug needed prior-authorization and Caremark/CVS will not cover your prescription because it needed prior-authorization by your doctor.
It was after the close of business for my doctor and I needed the medicine that day I had no choice but to purchase the medicine. I asked the pharmacist if I could pay for the prescription and then seek reimbursement and she said no. I paid for my prescription and called Caremark/CVS and spoke with a supervisor that simply stated my employer has chosen our cheapest policy. And Caremark/CVS is not responsible to notify me that a drug that my doctor has chosen must meet special conditions in order for it to be covered.
Also the representative stated that they are under no obligation to reimburse me for out-of-pocket expenses. Since I already paid for the prescription and I could not wait until the next day there was no remedy and I am out the $70.00.
Reason of review: Poor customer service.
Monetary Loss: $70.
Preferred solution: A refund of my out-of-pocket expense and pay only my co-pay..
CVS Caremark Cons: Fraud and deception by caremark.
Location: Houston, Texas
